Client Spotlight: Balance Yoga + Pilates

August 10, 20263 min read

For Beth, owner of Balance Yoga and Pilates, owning a wellness studio wasn't part of a lifelong plan—it was an opportunity that found her at exactly the right time.

Before stepping into entrepreneurship, Beth worked as a meeting and event planner. When the COVID-19 pandemic brought the events industry to a halt, she decided to pursue yoga teacher training. What began as a way to stay busy soon became something much bigger.

After teaching at the studio for just six months, the two women who owned it announced they were ready to move on. Rather than watch the doors close, Beth made a life-changing decision. "I went home and told my husband,

'I think I want to buy the studio. Do you think that's crazy?' Thankfully, he said no."

Within just a few months, she officially became the owner. Since then, she has also become a certified Pilates instructor and transformed the business into what is now Balance Yoga and Pilates.

While the name changed, Beth's vision remained simple: create a welcoming space where people can care for themselves—physically and mentally.

"I believe really strongly in taking care of ourselves, physically and mentally, and yoga and Pilates support both of those. I want people to feel comfortable no matter where they are in their wellness journey."

That mission is reflected in the studio every day. From first-time yoga students in their sixties to new moms returning to exercise, empty nesters rediscovering time for themselves, and clients easing back into in-person fitness after COVID, Balance Yoga and Pilates welcomes people in every stage of life.

Unlike larger fitness centers, the studio intentionally maintains a small, close-knit atmosphere. With just six reformers and intimate class sizes, members quickly become part of a supportive community.

"Everyone knows everyone here. They notice when you're not in class. We want people to feel safe, supported, and like they truly belong."

For Beth, some of the most rewarding moments come after someone's very first class. The studio sends a follow-up text asking about their experience, and the responses remind her why she chose this path.

"I love hearing things like, 'I haven't felt this welcomed in a long time,' or 'I had the best night's sleep,' or 'I'm sore, but I feel strong.'"

As her business continued to grow, Beth knew she wanted to protect what she had built. That search led her to Sunshine Law Firm after discovering attorney Maddison through an Instagram workshop focused on legal considerations for wellness businesses.

After meeting with other attorneys who didn't feel like the right fit, Beth immediately connected with Maddison's approachable style. Sunshine Law Firm helped Beth trademark the Balance Yoga and Pilates name, update her liability waivers, and revise her independent contractor agreements—giving her confidence that the legal foundation of her business was just as strong as the community she had created.

Looking back, Beth says investing in legal support earlier would have been one of the best decisions she could have made. Trademarking the studio was especially meaningful because it marked the moment the business truly became hers.

"I operated under the previous owner's name for about a year and a half, and it never really felt like mine. Having my own trademarked name made me realize, 'This is my business.'"

Her advice for fellow female business owners is one she continues to remind herself of as well.

"It's okay to speak up for yourself. It's okay to stand your ground. It's okay to have boundaries and take up space. As women, we often feel like we should stand quietly in the corner—but that's not how we should lead our businesses or our lives."

Through every class, every conversation, and every new client who walks through the door, Beth continues to build much more than a fitness studio. She's creating a community where people feel stronger, healthier, and genuinely supported—and that's a balance worth protecting..
